Wajih Al-Abdullah, Director of the Ousted President's Office, in the Grip of Syrian Security

SadaNews - The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of Major General Wajih Ali Al-Abdullah, who served for 13 years as the Director of Military Affairs Office for the ousted President Bashar Al-Assad.

Major General Wajih Al-Abdullah is considered one of the key figures in the inner circle of the ousted regime and was directly responsible for coordinating repressive practices and serious violations against Syrian civilians throughout his tenure at the presidential palace.

The ministry stated in a statement that internal security units, in cooperation with the anti-terrorism administration, carried out a "swift security operation" that resulted in Al-Abdullah's arrest.

Investigations revealed that he held his position in the Military Affairs Office from 2005 to 2018, a period described by the ministry as the "bloodiest" in the nation's history.

This operation is part of a series of pursuits carried out by the Syrian authorities against former officials and military personnel accused of involvement in violations during the years of the Syrian revolution.

Yesterday, Brigadier General Khardal Ahmad Dyouf was detained, who is accused of involvement in the chemical attack on Eastern Ghouta in the Damascus countryside, preceded by the arrest of Amjad Yusuf, the primary accused in the massacre of the Al-Tadamun neighborhood in Damascus in 2013.

The new Syrian administration is working to stabilize security conditions and pursue elements of the former regime accused of involvement in violations against civilians during the years of the revolution spanning from 2011 to 2024.
