The United States Ends Transfer of "Nuclear Materials" from Venezuela

SadaNews - The United States has announced the transfer of remaining enriched uranium from an old research reactor in Venezuela to its territory. The Department of Energy stated in a press release on Friday that 13.5 kilograms of enriched uranium were removed from the "RV-1" reactor located in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.

The statement clarified that the transferred materials exceeded the 20% enrichment level designated for highly enriched uranium, noting that they had become surplus to requirements following the cessation of research activities at the reactor in 1991.

It added that the uranium was safely transferred from the reactor to a Venezuelan port before being loaded onto a specially designated cargo ship for shipment to the United States.

According to the statement, the materials were transferred to the "Savannah River Site" facility in South Carolina for "processing and reuse".

It is noteworthy that on January 3rd of last year, the U.S. military launched an attack on Venezuela, resulting in the deaths of several people and the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, who were then taken to the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump later announced that his country would manage Venezuela during a transitional period and would send American companies to invest in the oil sector, without specifying a timeline.

In early March of this year, Washington and Caracas agreed to restore diplomatic relations following discussions between the United States and the interim Venezuelan Government led by Delcy Rodriguez.
