Canada: Arrest of a Teen Suspected of Shooting Outside a Jewish Synagogue
SadaNews - The Canadian police reported on the night of Friday to Saturday that they arrested an 18-year-old young man in connection with two attacks suspected to have been motivated by hatred against the Jewish community in Toronto.
The Toronto police stated that after an investigation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Unit, four charges were laid against the young man for assault with a weapon and two charges for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, according to the German news agency.
The young man's arrest is linked to two incidents that occurred over a span of just over a week.
On April 30, three "members of the Jewish community who could be clearly identified" were shot at with a firearm from a person in a vehicle while they were walking on the street in the North York area of Toronto, according to the police.
The victims sustained minor injuries.
In another incident on May 7, also in North York, three individuals "appearing to be members of the Jewish community" were shot at with a firearm from a vehicle while they were standing outside a Jewish synagogue in Toronto. One of the victims suffered minor injuries.
The police stated that the incidents are being investigated as "hate crimes."
