Iran Reopens the Strait of Hormuz
SadaNews - The Iranian headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya announced on Sunday the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, just a day after the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced its reopening to commercial ship traffic.
The Iranian military headquarters stated that it was decided to return the situation in the Strait of Hormuz to its previous state, as long as Washington does not commit to ensuring the freedom of ship movement to and from Iran, referring to the ongoing U.S. maritime blockade on Iranian ports.
It added: the Strait of Hormuz will remain under the management of our armed forces and under strict surveillance.
It noted: Based on negotiations, we have agreed to allow a number of ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in good faith, accusing the United States of violating agreements once again and continuing its maritime piracy.
The Speaker of the Iranian Majlis, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, stated earlier today that as long as the blockade continues, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.
He added: Ship passage in the Strait of Hormuz will be according to the "designated route" and with "permission from Iran".
He emphasized that "the opening or closing of the strait and the laws that govern it are determined by the field, not social media networks," referring to tweets by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Earlier, Reuters reported navigational data indicating that a convoy of oil tankers was observed leaving the Gulf and transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
