Lavrov: Force Will Not Resolve the Middle East Crisis and We Are Ready to Compensate for Energy Shortages
SadaNews - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday that it is not easy to resolve the crisis in the Middle East amid increasing tensions between the United States and Iran.
Lavrov added during a visit to China that attempts to resolve the conflict by force in the Middle East will lead to nothing, as he described.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned during his meeting with Lavrov in Beijing that "the danger of unilateral dominance may escalate and the current international situation is witnessing severe disturbances."
The Chinese foreign ministry reported that Wang Yi met Lavrov in Beijing on Tuesday, where they discussed the conflict between the United States and Iran, the Ukraine crisis, and preparations for a meeting between the Chinese and Russian leaders later this year.
Wang stated that Russia and China should "continue strategic coordination on major international and regional issues," referring to "the highly volatile international situation and the increasing harms caused by unilateral dominance."
Beijing hosted several leaders this week from countries affected by the war and its economic repercussions, including Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vietnamese President To Lam.
On the other hand, Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to "compensate" for the energy resource shortfall that China and other countries are facing due to the war in the Middle East, according to Russian news agencies.
Lavrov stated during a press conference in Beijing that "Russia can undoubtedly compensate for the resource shortfall" for China and "for other countries interested in working with us."
He also confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will visit China during the first half of 2026.
Chinese President Xi Jinping received Lavrov on Wednesday, who began a two-day visit to China on Tuesday.
The two countries share close diplomatic and economic ties, and they are partners with Iran and competitors to the United States.
Lavrov emphasized that the relations between Russia and China "remain resilient in the face of all storms." He noted that the relationship between Putin and Xi contributes to "the ability of their countries to withstand the shocks that have shaken the world."
