Xi expresses "full confidence" to Taiwanese opposition leader in unity between Taiwanese and Chinese people
SadaNews - Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed "full confidence" in the unity of the Chinese and Taiwanese peoples to the leader of the Taiwanese opposition party during a rare meeting held between the two in Beijing on Friday.
Xi told KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wun that "the general trend of rapprochement between citizens on both sides of the strait and their unity will not change. This is an inevitable part. We have full confidence in that."
For her part, the Taiwanese opposition leader emphasized to the Chinese president the need for cooperation between China and Taiwan "to avoid war."
Cheng said, "Both sides must overcome political confrontation... and seek a fundamental solution to prevent and avoid war, so that the Taiwan Strait becomes a model for peacefully resolving conflicts worldwide."
