Trump: There Will Be No Enrichment... We Will Remove 'Nuclear Dust' from Iran
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that "there will be no enrichment of uranium" in Iran, considering that Tehran has "undergone a beneficial change in the regime," pointing out that the United States and Iran "will work to extract and remove all remnants of buried nuclear materials," in reference to handling issues related to the Iranian nuclear program.
Trump stated in a post on the "Truth Social" platform that the United States will work "closely with Iran," considering that Tehran has "gone through what would be an extremely fruitful regime change," emphasizing that "there will be no enrichment of uranium. "
He added that Washington will work with Iran on "extracting and removing the nuclear dust (referring to all remnants of nuclear materials and highly enriched uranium) buried deep." He mentioned that these sites are "under very close surveillance via satellites," stressing that "nothing has been touched since the attack" on Iran.
The U.S. President noted that his country "will discuss with Iran the issue of tariffs and easing sanctions," pointing out that "many of the 15 points (referring to the U.S. settlement plan) have already been agreed upon." In this context, Trump announced an immediate 50% tariff on all goods sold to the United States from any country that supplies Iran with weapons.
This comes in an attempt to pressure countries supporting Tehran, while White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated on Wednesday that discussions are ongoing about having direct talks with Iran, but anything would be final only if announced by Trump or the White House.
In this context, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced during a press conference on Wednesday that the United States has "completely destroyed Iran's defense industrial base," stating that the Iranians "are no longer able to manufacture missiles, shells, launch pads, or drones."
He added that "their factories have been destroyed." He also warned that Washington is prepared to seize Iranian uranium if Tehran refuses to relinquish it, saying: "We know what they have, and they will deliver it, and we will get it, and we will take it if we have to, this can be done by all possible means."
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Kind announced that the U.S. armed forces are ready to resume fighting with Iran if the truce between the two countries ends. Kind stated during a joint press conference with Hegseth, "Let’s be clear, the ceasefire is just a temporary truce."
He stressed that "the armed forces remain on alert if orders are issued or if requested to resume combat operations with the same speed and precision that we demonstrated during the past 38 days."
This comes following the announcement of a temporary truce between the United States and Iran for two weeks, after extensive diplomatic efforts before the deadline Trump had given to Tehran, where he agreed to halt the attack "based on discussions with the Pakistani side," provided that Iran fully and immediately opens the Strait of Hormuz securely."
In this context, U.S. Vice President JD Vance welcomed what he described as a "fragile truce," urging Iran to negotiate "in good faith" to reach a long-term agreement, warning that Trump "is not someone to be trifled with."
He added during a visit to Budapest that "a deal is possible if the Iranians are ready to work with us in good faith," pointing out that the U.S. president "is impatient and looking to make progress."
The first round of talks between the United States and Iran is scheduled to begin this Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, and will last for two weeks, as part of efforts to reach an agreement to end the war between the two sides, which erupted on February 28 of last year.
Several countries have welcomed the announcement of the temporary ceasefire, considering it a step towards reducing tensions in the region, amidst hopes that this truce will contribute to restoring stability, especially in light of concerns related to navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz and its implications for the global economy.
