French-Iranian Deal for Prisoner Exchange
SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron announced today (Tuesday) that two French citizens detained in Iran are on their way home, after being released last November following more than 3 years in prison after being convicted of espionage.
President Macron wrote on his "X" account: "Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris are free and on their way to France, after 3.5 years of detention in Iran."
A source at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that they left Iran on Tuesday morning in a diplomatic convoy accompanied by the French ambassador, and "they are currently in Azerbaijan," according to the French Press Agency.
Meanwhile, the IRNA agency reported that their release was in exchange for the release of an Iranian citizen.
It noted that the agreement includes France withdrawing its complaint against Iran at the International Court of Justice.
