Ramallah and Al-Bireh Powers Call for Wider Participation in Palestinian Prisoners’ Day Events and Expanding Mobilization to Abort the Death Penalty Law

SadaNews - The national and Islamic forces in Ramallah and Al-Bireh renewed their emphasis on the importance of expanding the popular movement supporting the female and male prisoners in light of the fierce assault they are subjected to by prison administrations and the ongoing violations against them, especially with the approval of the death penalty law for prisoners. This necessitates action at all levels to abolish this racist law and to urge international bodies to provide protection for the prisoners and to take tangible steps to punish the occupying state for its series of crimes against them. The forces affirmed their decision to consider the current month of April as a month for continuing popular events in support of the prisoners in the occupation jails, coinciding with the ongoing preparations to commemorate Palestinian Prisoners’ Day on the seventeenth of the month. They are working to unify activities to confront the death penalty law and calling for wide international, popular, and legal movements to abolish it. They invited all components, unions, and popular and civil bodies to engage widely in the national program to commemorate Prisoners’ Day with the broadest forms of popular participation. In this context, the forces emphasize the importance not only of widespread international condemnation of this law but also of officially working to halt its implementation, considering the Knesset of the occupation as an internationally boycotted parliament and stopping relations with it, and enforcing international law concerning the measures taken by the occupying state in the Palestinian territories amidst attempts to impose control, annexation plans, and displacement. The forces welcomed President Mahmoud Abbas’s decision to form a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the martyrdom of the released prisoner deported to Egypt, Riyad Al-Amour. They demand that the investigation results be made public and that this be expedited, as well as providing medical assistance to follow up on the health status of many recently released prisoners who suffer from various diseases and are in need of medical treatment that befits their national and struggle dignity and protects their rights. The forces called for providing the villages and towns that are continuously subjected to settlers’ assaults with all means of resilience and solidifying the Palestinian presence therein, and providing the means for the popular protection committees, in addition to pooling efforts at all levels, including local councils, to fulfill their roles in serving citizens and maintaining presence on the land and supporting steadfastness therein. In light of the American-Israeli war on Iran and the occupation exploiting the situation in the region, along with the global economic crisis and rising prices, the forces demanded that the government, private sector, and community organizations work through an integrated program to protect vulnerable groups, provide a social protection network, monitor prices and markets, regulate commodities, and ensure the provision of basic goods to the citizens. They called for popular solidarity and unity for a people under occupation in light of the withholding of funds and financial blockade, and to set support and national steadfastness plans appropriate to the current situation that can confront the policies of the occupation regarding forced displacement.
