Chinese 'Space Pioneer' Announces Failure of First Reusable Rocket Flight
SadaNews - The Beijing-based company 'Space Pioneer', specialized in rocket development, announced that the first test flight of its reusable rocket 'Tianlong-3' ended in failure, highlighting the challenges faced by Chinese rocket developers in their attempt to catch up with Elon Musk's American company 'SpaceX'.
'Space Pioneer', also known as 'Beijing Tianping Technology', provided few details regarding the reason for the failure, simply announcing it in a brief statement published on its official account on the WeChat app.
The company is among a small group of private sector rocket development firms that are experiencing rapid growth, driven by Beijing's efforts to transform China into a major space power, as well as policy support that facilitates these companies in raising capital and listing their shares publicly, according to Reuters.
These companies are now competing to become the leading Chinese developer of reusable rockets, a technology that has so far only been mastered by 'SpaceX'.
The ability to launch the first stage of an orbital rocket, recover it, and reuse it is crucial for reducing launch costs and facilitating the placement of satellites in orbit around the Earth for purposes ranging from communications to military surveillance.
