The Israeli Knesset Approves Law for the Execution of Palestinian Prisoners
Translation by SadaNews - The Israeli Knesset approved on Monday evening, in its second and third readings, a bill to execute Palestinian prisoners convicted of killing Israelis.
According to Channel 12, 62 members voted in favor of the law, while 48 opposed it in the third reading.
In the second reading, 62 members voted for it against 47 in opposition, with one abstention.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voted in favor of the law, while it was opposed by opposition leader Yair Lapid and members of his party, as well as Benny Gantz and members of his party. However, the law was supported by the opposition party Yisrael Beiteinu led by Avigdor Lieberman, and members of the Yahadut Hatorah party from the ruling coalition voted against the law, while the Shas party supported it.
The voting process was expedited due to security conditions.
The Hebrew channel suggested, as translated by SadaNews, that the Israeli Supreme Court may annul the law due to its illegality.
