Turkey: Israel’s Political Assassinations of Iranian Leaders Are Illegal
SadaNews - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan strongly criticized Israel today, Tuesday, after it announced the assassination of Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, condemning the "illegal" targeting operations against Iranian leaders.
Fidan stated at a press conference that "Israeli political assassinations, especially those targeting Iranian statesmen and politicians, are indeed illegal activities that surpass normal warfare laws."
Iran has not confirmed Larijani's death.
Fidan also warned that the escalation of war in the Middle East could lead to a "permanent" refugee crisis, following the displacement of millions, particularly in Iran and Lebanon.
He said, at a press conference: "If the war expands... it is likely to turn into a permanent refugee crisis, as refugees will seek shelter outside their countries," adding, "This situation must be stopped as soon as possible."
Israel announced today that it killed Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani, a key figure in the government, and Basij Forces Commander Gholam Reza Soleimani, in nighttime strikes on Tehran.
Iran has not yet officially commented on the Israeli announcement. If confirmed, Larijani's absence is a pivotal point, as he has been a central figure in the ruling system for decades, and his role has grown in this war, especially after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei at the beginning of it, and the non-appearance of his son Mojtaba in public since his appointment as his successor.
