A Strange Gift from Trump Raises Questions

SadaNews - Official leather shoes have become one of the most popular status symbols among supporters of US President Donald Trump, who has gotten used to presenting them as gifts to heads of federal agencies, legislators, White House advisors, and prominent guests.

According to a report by the "Wall Street Journal", Trump often asks during government meetings: "Did you get the shoes?", while some of the recipients have been seen wearing them in the Oval Office.

During a lunch in January, Trump abruptly changed the subject to talk about his new "amazing" shoes before presenting a pair of brown classic-designed shoes to journalist Tucker Carlson.

A White House official said: "All the men have these shoes," while another commented jokingly: "It's funny because everyone is afraid not to wear them." It seems that Trump personally oversees this matter.

A Trump Favorite Brand

Trump has taken a liking to Florsheim shoes, an American brand that combines comfort with a classic style for over a century, and their prices are relatively moderate, with many of their models priced around $145.

The report stated that Trump guesses the shoe sizes of people in front of him, then asks one of his assistants to note the size, and about a week later, a brown box bearing the Florsheim label arrives at the White House.

Sometimes, Trump signs the box or includes a thank-you card, according to sources familiar with this tradition.

Recipients of the Shoes

The 79-year-old President, known for his luxurious suits and long red ties and his keen attention to appearance, began looking for a more comfortable shoe after long days of work late last year, before settling on Florsheim.

After being impressed with them, he started distributing them to those around him. The White House confirmed that Trump pays for these shoes out of his own pocket.

Among those who received these shoes are:

Vice President JD Vance.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.

White House Communications Director Stephen Chung.

Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair.

Journalist Sean Hannity.

And Senator Lindsey Graham.

Wearing Them in Trump's Presence

Many recipients of the shoes make an effort to wear them in Trump's presence, although some do so reluctantly.

The report noted that one government minister complained about having to set aside his luxurious Louis Vuitton shoes.

Officially, the White House has not confirmed that Florsheim is Trump's preferred brand, but one recipient said the president kept a pile of these boxes in one of the offices.

One of the boxes was labeled "Scott," referring to Treasury Secretary Scott Pelsen.
