Syria Denies Planning to Attack Any Country After Deploying Reinforcements on Its Borders with Lebanon and Iraq

SadaNews - The Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that the deployment of Syrian army units along the borders with Lebanon and Iraq is a precautionary measure aimed at securing the borders, amid current regional developments with the escalation of the war on Iran.

The Ministry of Defense's media and communication office confirmed to Al Jazeera that the military deployment is a "sovereign defensive measure that does not target any country or entity, and is exclusively aimed at protecting the Syrian borders and preventing any illegal activities, carrying no other intentions."

It noted that the Syrian authorities are in continuous contact with Iraqi and Lebanese counterparts to manage the borders between the two countries.

This comes after the Syrian army deployed military reinforcements along the borders with Lebanon and Iraq, which are experiencing tensions amid the war launched by Israel and the United States against Iran.

Government sources confirmed to Agence France-Presse yesterday that reinforcements for the Syrian army arrived at the border with Lebanon, explaining that the troops and military equipment included "armored vehicles, soldiers, rocket launchers, and reconnaissance battalions to monitor border activities and combat smuggling."

It stated that "Syrian military forces have headed to the Syrian-Lebanese border near the Homs governorate," adjacent to Hezbollah's stronghold in eastern Lebanon.

Israeli Violations

On another note, sources in the Israeli military northern command mentioned yesterday that "Syria is transferring forces and weapons to a strategic area in the Golan Heights, contrary to the understandings with it."

The Israeli army considered this step to be "in complete contradiction to the agreements made with Israel and represents a blatant violation of the security understandings in the sensitive region near Israel's northern border."

Military sources stated, according to Anadolu Agency, that the hilly area in the Golan Heights "constitutes a crucial strategic axis that allows for monitoring and fire control over large areas in northern Israel."
