Mustafa Meets the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process and the Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA

SadaNews - Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa met today, Tuesday, in the Belgian capital Brussels, with the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christoph Baygou and the Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA Christian Saunders, each separately, in the presence of Minister of Finance and Planning Stefan Salama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Omar Awad Allah, and the Ambassador of Palestine to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, Amal Jado Al-Shuqaa.

During the meetings, Mustafa discussed the latest developments and field updates in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, amid the ongoing occupation measures to close crossings with Gaza, the scarcity of aid, and the occupation's obstruction of the entry of construction, relief, and recovery supplies. This is in addition to the difficult field conditions in the West Bank, including assaults by settlers, land confiscation, checkpoints, and daily incursions into Palestinian areas, as well as the continued detention of Palestinian tax revenues.

The Prime Minister emphasized that UNRWA cannot be replaced or dispensed with and that it is crucial to maintain its role in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip, given the escalating humanitarian disaster in the sector, which proves that its work represents a fundamental pillar of the humanitarian response, alongside the institutions of the State of Palestine, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions.

It was agreed to build on the outcomes of recent meetings with international partners, continue coordination regarding Gaza projects, expand the European support mechanism, support the preparation for Palestinian elections, and maintain pressure on Israel regarding tax clearance funds and the restrictions imposed on Palestinians.
