Draft Law on "Hormuz Fees" Presented to Iranian Parliament

SadaNews - The head of the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Ibrahim Azizi, announced on Tuesday the official submission of a draft law concerning the Strait of Hormuz that includes imposing fees on ships crossing it to Parliament last Monday night.

Azizi stated in a post on the "X" platform: "This is the first step, and subsequent measures are on the way".

He added: "We will remain steadfast in defending our red lines, especially regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz".

According to Bloomberg news agency, the draft law aims to create a legislative framework to regulate the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, including the imposition of fees on them.

These developments coincide with escalating tensions between the United States and Iran amid a struggle for control over the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly a fifth of global oil production passes.

Earlier on Tuesday, an Iranian military spokesperson said that the Strait of Hormuz "will not open through American aggression and war".

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that the United States would control the Strait of Hormuz and impose a 20% fee on passage through it.
