A Potential Successor to His Father.. Mojtaba Khamenei Survives Attack on Iran
SadaNews - Sources in Iran told Reuters on Wednesday that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, survived the American and Israeli airstrikes that claimed his father's life.
The sources added that the ruling religious institution views him as a potential successor to his father.
Mojtaba, who is a cleric with close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, is considered one of the most influential figures in the Iranian religious establishment. He has been seen for years as one of the top candidates to succeed his father.
One of the sources stated, "He (Mojtaba) is alive... he was not in Tehran at the time of the Supreme Leader's assassination."
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on Saturday in American-Israeli attacks on targets in Iran, among other military and influential figures who also lost their lives.
Official Iranian media announced Khamenei's death early on Sunday. A senior Israeli official told Reuters that the Iranian leader's body was found.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States worked closely with Israel to target the man who had been leading Iran since 1989.
