Paris Summons US Ambassador in Protest Against Washington's Stance on the Killing of a Right-Wing Activist
SadaNews - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced today, Sunday, that Paris will summon the US ambassador, Charles Kushner, to protest against his country’s stance on the killing of a young right-wing extremist who was beaten in the city of Lyon.
Barrot stated in radio remarks, "We will summon the US ambassador in France, given that the United States embassy in France has made a statement regarding this tragedy which concerns the local community." He added, "We reject any exploitation of this tragedy for political purposes."
The US administration condemned "terrorism" in France on Friday and warned against leftist violence after right-wing activist Canten Durank was beaten to death.
US Deputy Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Sarah Rogers, stated that Durank's killing illustrates "why we deal firmly with political violence and terrorism."
Durank, 23, died from head injuries after being attacked by at least six people during a protest against a conference in which European Deputy Reema Hassan of the radical left party "France Insoumise" participated in Lyon last week.
