Massive Recall Hits Nissan: Engine Issues in 2023-2025 Models

SadaNews - Nissan has announced a recall of approximately 642,000 Nissan Rogue vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 models in the United States, due to two separate issues related to the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) technology.

According to notifications issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the first recall involves 323,917 vehicles amid concerns of high engine oil temperatures, which could lead to the degradation of lubrication properties and damage to internal bearings.

Risk of Engine Damage

According to the documents, high oil temperatures – under certain conditions – may cause a loss of its ability to adequately lubricate internal parts, potentially leading to bearing wear or failure. In the worst-case scenarios, the engine may fail while driving, posing a risk of serious damage.

The company reported that it has recorded hundreds of cases during the warranty period, without reporting any related injury incidents linked to the issue so far.

Dealers will work to reprogram the engine control module (ECM), inspect the vehicle for fault codes, and may include checking the oil pan for any metallic shavings indicating internal damage. If damage is confirmed, the engine will be replaced free of charge.

Malfunction in the Electronic Throttle Body

The second recall involves the 2024 and 2025 Rogue models and is linked to a potential malfunction in the gear assembly within the electronic throttle chamber.

The company explained that a routine diagnostic test conducted before starting the engine could force the throttle plate to close with excessive force due to specific programming in the module, which might cause stress in the gear and lead to its breakage. If this occurs, the engine may fail to start or may have trouble shifting gears after a restart.

Technicians will reprogram the module and inspect the throttle body, replacing damaged parts as needed at no cost to the owners.

Notifying Owners

Nissan indicated that it has informed dealers of the necessary procedures, with official notifications to be sent to owners starting from March 27, 2026. Affected owners can contact the company's customer service or visit the nearest authorized dealer for free repairs.

It is noteworthy that some vehicles that had previously been recalled may require this new action under the recent expanded campaign.
