"Meta" Revives Plans to Launch Smartwatch and Aims to Start Rollout in 2026
SadaNews - Technology media outlets reported from informed sources that "Meta Platforms," the owner of "Instagram," plans to launch its first smartwatch this year.
The technology news site "The Information" added that the company has revived its smartwatch project (Malibu 2) and that the watch, set to debut later this year, will feature health tracking capabilities and an integrated "Meta AI" assistant.
According to "The Information," "Meta" explored launching a smartwatch about five years ago, including plans at one point to issue versions equipped with three cameras, but halted the project in 2022 as part of broader spending cuts in its Reality Labs division.
"Meta" declined to comment on the report.
This news indicates a strong comeback for wearable devices, supported by an AI boom, as companies are eager to launch devices equipped with advanced technologies with a particular focus on health and fitness.
