Iraqi Talks About Positive Developments and Initial Understanding with the United States
SadaNews - After hours following the conclusion of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the U.S. regarding the nuclear file, Abbas Araqchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister who headed his country's delegation, confirmed that "there are positive developments in this round of talks compared to the previous round"
He added in statements to Iranian television today, Tuesday, that his country’s delegation "has reached an understanding on the main principles with the U.S." He further stated, "We now have a clear path to move in negotiations with the U.S.".
However, he clarified that "this does not mean we will reach an agreement soon, but the road has begun," as he put it.
Additionally, he reported that both sides "will work on two versions of the potential agreement document and exchange them," according to Reuters.
He noted that "there are issues that need to be worked on by both parties".
Araqchi also confirmed that the second round of talks with Washington was "constructive". He emphasized that his country has proven it is "committed to diplomacy and has demonstrated that". He added that consultations began yesterday, with good discussions occurring at the technical level.
He pointed out that a date for a third round of talks with the U.S. side has not yet been set. However, he noted that the third round will be held after exchanging "texts of a potential agreement".
Regarding the relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency, he stressed that his country continues to engage in constructive dialogue and is committed to cooperating with the UN agency.
On the American threats, the Iranian minister stated: "There should be an immediate and unconditional halt to the explicit indication of the possibility of the United States using force".
These statements came after weeks of both sides exchanging threats, amid U.S. military buildup in the region.
They also followed a first round of negotiations held on February 6 in Muscat, which was also described as positive.
The United States has repeatedly called for a halt to uranium enrichment and sought to confront Iran's ballistic missile program and its support for armed groups in the region, issues that Israel has pressured to include in the talks.
However, the Iranian side has recently asserted that negotiations with Washington have been and will be limited solely to the nuclear file, considering the missile issue a "sovereign matter".
Tehran has also emphasized that its right to enrich uranium is non-negotiable.
