Israel Announces Details of "Night Attack" in Southern Syria

SadaNews - The Israeli occupation army announced on Tuesday details of an attack it carried out in Syria last week, which included an airstrike and the incursion of soldiers.

The army stated that "during a night raid in southern Syria, a weapons depot belonging to the Islamic group was destroyed."

According to the army, the target located in the village of Beit Jann contained large quantities of weapons, including "firearms, mines, and other military equipment."

The attack also included the incursion of an Israeli ground force to "locate and destroy a depot of combat means belonging to the Islamic group," according to the army spokesperson.

The army released a video of the operation, showing an airstrike followed by a ground operation carried out by Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli attack came after months of armed clashes between members of the group and Israeli forces in the same village during an attempt to arrest them, resulting in injuries to a number of Israeli soldiers, some of them seriously.

The announcement of the operation comes a day after Israeli special forces arrested a senior member of the Islamic group in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army mentioned that the Islamic group "has advanced during the war and still seeks to carry out terrorist operations against Israel and its citizens in the northern sector."

The Israeli occupation army has also previously accused the group of closely cooperating with Hezbollah and Hamas, both in Lebanon and Syria, and possessing "military sites" in southern Lebanon, as well as infrastructure along the Syrian-Lebanese border and in southern Syria.
