Wetkow meets Netanyahu and senior officials as Tel Aviv presents its demands to the United States regarding Iran
Translation by SadaNews - U.S. envoy Steve Wetkow met on Tuesday evening with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials in occupied Jerusalem to discuss the Iranian nuclear file and the Gaza issue.
According to the Hebrew channel Reshet Kan, as translated by SadaNews, the meeting lasted for 3.5 hours and was attended by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, his Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, the head of the Mossad Didi Barnea, the commander of the Air Force, and the head of military intelligence.
According to the channel, the purpose of this meeting was to discuss negotiations with Iran, as well as the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
It indicated that Israel demanded from the United States freedom of operations in Iran, working to stop the production of ballistic missiles that threaten Israel, in addition to halting uranium enrichment.
During the talks, senior Israeli officials emphasized the seriousness of ballistic missiles, not just the Iranian nuclear program.
It pointed out that Israel is closely monitoring the conflict between Iran and the United States, especially concerning Iran's attempt to attack the aircraft carrier Lincoln, and the impact of this attempt on the coming days, which have been sensitive since the beginning.
This is the first military engagement between Iran and the United States since the U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The U.S. military shot down an Iranian reconnaissance drone that was flying over U.S. aircraft carriers in the Arabian Sea.
Meanwhile, Channel 14 quoted an Israeli military source as saying that during the meeting that took place tonight, the Americans were warned that the Iranians would violate any agreement and that there was no point in trying to reach an agreement as they would not relinquish their nuclear weapons and missiles; and it seems that part of the reason for their attempts to hold meetings is to buy time to transfer offensive weapons to hidden locations, as translated by SadaNews.
Axios reported that Iran requested to relocate the negotiations to Oman instead of Istanbul, while the White House stated that the meeting would proceed as planned.
