Weitkov to Meet Iraqi Friday in Istanbul to Discuss Possible Nuclear Deal

SadaNews - The U.S. envoy, Steve Weitkov, is scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi next Friday in Istanbul to discuss a potential nuclear agreement.

Axios reported, citing sources, that the planned meeting between Weitkov and Araqchi in Istanbul came as a result of diplomatic efforts made by Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar in recent days.

Weitkov will arrive in Israel tomorrow to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the potential agreement, and he will also meet with other officials, including Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, who revealed that he is in the United States holding security sessions.

Reuters quoted a source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry stating that Tehran is considering the terms for resuming talks with the U.S., confirming that arrangements are in place for the meeting between the two sides.

The official stated that Tehran is ready to show flexibility regarding uranium enrichment, including the delivery of 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium.

He said: We want the U.S. military presence to remain distant from us in order to start the talks.

According to Axios, Israel has red lines regarding the nuclear issue, specifically concerning "non-enrichment" and the removal of uranium from Iranian territory. However, their significant concern is that the Americans might ultimately settle for an agreement that only addresses the nuclear issue while ignoring the other two issues: ballistic missiles and the "terrorism" campaign, as well as providing assistance to Iran's proxies in the region.

Israel views the Iranian missile program as an existential threat that must be addressed, and it expects the Americans to insist on reducing the number of missiles, particularly their range.
