Weitkoff and Kushner Meet Netanyahu Tonight to Discuss Gaza and Iran Files
SadaNews Translation - US envoys, Steve Weitkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Israel on Saturday to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this evening.
According to Channel 13 in Israel, as translated by SadaNews, issues related to the transition to the second phase in Gaza, the opening of the Rafah crossing, and Iran are on the agenda for the meeting.
The United States is urging Israel to open the Rafah crossing even before the return of the last Israeli body, but assures that it will make every effort to locate it.
This visit comes amid Israel's discontent over the involvement of Qatar in the executive body of the Peace Council, which will supervise the ceasefire agreement and manage the affairs of the Palestinian technocrat committee.
Just days ago, an Israeli official stated that the move to open the Rafah crossing without the return of the last abducted body is revenge by Weitkoff and Kushner against Netanyahu for refusing to open the crossing before the body is returned.
The official then pointed out that the formation of the executive body of the Peace Council was done without Israel's approval.
Simultaneously with the visit, the family of the last Israeli body still in the Gaza Strip, Ran Goyli, issued a statement saying: "President Trump himself stated this week in Davos that Hamas knows where our son is, and we wonder why pressure is directed at the wrong party... Pressure should not be placed on the Israeli government, which will continue to fulfill its obligations under the agreement, while Hamas misleads the entire world and refuses to return the last abductees, according to the agreement it signed."
The statement added: "We call on the Israeli Prime Minister to communicate with the US envoys and emphasize that any party wishing to proceed with the reconstruction of Gaza and achieve peace in the Middle East must first focus its efforts on bringing Ran back home."
