Jordanian Monarch Orders Restructuring of His Army

SadaNews - King Abdullah II, the supreme commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces, has directed the preparation of a strategy and roadmap to achieve a structural transformation in the Jordanian Armed Forces over the next three years.

This was stated in a message he sent to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Youssef Ahmed Al-Hunaiti.

In his message, he stated: In our commitment to enhancing the capabilities of our Arab army and continuously developing its potential and tools, we direct you to prepare a comprehensive strategy and a clear roadmap to achieve a structural transformation in the armed forces over the next three years, enabling it to address current and future threats, rapid changes, and emerging challenges imposed by technological developments and the expansion of the operational environment.

He added: There must be consideration of the requirements related to updating and developing our armed forces and restructuring them so that their organizational structure aligns with the demands of combat within various operational environments, ensuring proficiency in modern warfare methods and effective employment of its capabilities in line with the nature of contemporary hybrid and unconventional wars.

He continued: We aspire for an armed forces that is agile, flexible, and qualitative, continuing to prepare, arm, and train them on modern combat methods to maintain a high level of competence, professionalism, and combat readiness to achieve strategic deterrence, according to a precise and studied combat doctrine at all levels, characterized by simplicity, effectiveness, and applicability through optimal employment of defensive and offensive capabilities and developing training and arming plans that serve operational plans.

He further stated: We want our armed forces to have the capability to protect their strategic and operational centers of gravity, and to utilize modern defense technologies in partnership between the relevant directorates in their branches and the affiliated research and studies centers, along with local and friendly defense industries, to possess an effective, reliable, and secure command, control, and communication system.

The King of Jordan said: It is essential to work towards achieving superiority and competitiveness in one or more areas of operational combat, and to prioritize defensive and offensive cyber operations as a field where investments can be made and capabilities built to achieve competitiveness, and to employ drone technology and artificial intelligence at all levels of the armed forces units.

Abdullah II added: Our armed forces need to have sufficient reserve forces equipped with the various necessary capabilities to carry out their operations efficiently according to the tasks and responsibilities assigned to them in operational plans, in addition to studying the most suitable employment of border guard units and special police units of the Public Security Directorate in operational plans, and the logistics support system must be strengthened to cover all levels and ensure fluid supply lines and sustainability.

He continued: To achieve a qualitative leap in our defense industry capabilities and keep pace with the rapid developments in this field, it is necessary to redirect the role of the Jordanian Center for Design and Development and enhance its capabilities to become a nucleus in research and development and manufacturing of advanced defense technology, according to the latest global specifications, to meet various national needs in this sector.

He added: This strategy must also include clear steps to restructure the investment funds and companies affiliated with the armed forces and their administrations, in line with the highest professional standards of governance and management.

He concluded: I look forward to being provided with this strategy and roadmap, for the purposes of its approval and immediate implementation. I have absolute confidence that you, along with our brothers in the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army, are capable of taking on the responsibility of developing and modernizing our noble army, and achieving the desired qualitative leap, for our armed forces to remain, as we have always known them, at the forefront of military forces, distinguished by their competence, and keeping pace with all modern changes and developments. Know that you will find in me all the support and assistance for your efforts in development and modernization, for the elevation of our army and the protection of our beloved Jordan.
