Trump Invites Sisi and Erdogan to Join the Gaza Peace Council
SadaNews - Cairo and Ankara revealed on Saturday that U.S. President Donald Trump has invited his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to join the "Peace Council" for Gaza.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati stated that his country received an invitation from Trump for the Egyptian president to join the Peace Council in Gaza, and that Egypt is currently considering the matter.
Abdel Aati emphasized during a press conference in Cairo that without Trump's direct involvement in implementing the requirements of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, it would be difficult for the parties to adhere to their commitments.
For his part, Turkey's presidential communication director Burhanettin Duran stated in a post on X platform, "On January 16, U.S. President Donald Trump, in his capacity as the founder of the Peace Council, sent an invitation to our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be a founding member of the Peace Council."
Trump has appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as founding members of the "Peace Council."
According to the U.S. State Department, the founding executive council was established with leaders experienced in the fields of diplomacy, development, infrastructure, and economic strategy, with the aim of activating the vision of the "Peace Council," which includes: Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Minister Hakan Fidan, Ali Al-Zouadi, General Hassan Rashad, Sir Tony Blair, Mark Rowan, Minister Reem Al-Hashimi, Nikolai Mladenov, Yakir Jabai, and Sigrid Kaag.
The statement indicated that Trump will personally chair the council, noting that other members will be announced in the coming weeks.
The council head has appointed Ariyeh Lightstone and Josh Grunbaum as senior advisors to the Peace Council to support this operational model, tasked with leading strategy and daily operations and translating the council's mandate and diplomatic priorities into a disciplined execution mechanism.
