Shaath Reveals Details of the First Meeting of the Palestinian Technocratic Committee in Cairo
SadaNews - The first meeting of the Palestinian National Committee for the Management of the Gaza Strip began today, Friday, in the Egyptian capital Cairo. This step has been described as historic for organizing Palestinian internal affairs and re-establishing authority in the region.
The head of the Palestinian National Committee for the Management of the Gaza Strip, Ali Shaath, arrived in Cairo yesterday, Thursday, to commence the first meetings of the committee tasked with managing the affairs of the region, following Washington's announcement of the start of the second phase of the plan to end the war on Gaza and the support of factions for the committee to take on its roles, alongside Hamas's readiness to hand over governmental files.
Shaath stated to Cairo News Channel that the committee officially commenced its work from Cairo, preparing to move to Gaza to implement an urgent relief plan for the Palestinian people.
He added: "Based on the committee's meetings in Cairo and moving to Gaza, we will, God willing, provide relief to our people."
He explained that the relief plan is based on the Egyptian plan approved by the Arab League and Muslim countries, which has been welcomed by the European Union and several international parties, indicating that the committee will rely on Arab brothers, led by Egypt, to provide construction contractors for the reconstruction of the region.
He noted that the first step adopted by the committee is to supply 200,000 pre-fabricated housing units for the region.
Regarding the formation of the committee, he stated that its establishment is important for the Palestinian people and came as a result of a Security Council decision, President Trump's plan, and with a statement from the Palestinian leadership that wants the committee to serve as a link between Gaza and the West Bank to realize the national dream.
Shaath mentioned that the committee consists of 15 moderate professional Palestinian figures, noting that the members of the committee have a long history of developmental, relief, and humanitarian work in the region.
The head of the Palestinian National Committee for the Management of Gaza said: "Providing support is extremely important for the Palestinian people to overcome the difficult conditions they are living in, and we first look out for the Palestinian individual and give him hope after two years of war."
Regarding the committee's objectives, Shaath stated: "Our goal in the coming days is to bring smiles to the faces of the children, women, and men of the region. After two years of war, Gazans need more than assistance."
He mentioned that donor countries have provided financial support to the committee and set up a budget for two years, stressing that the most important aspect is establishing a fund in the World Bank for the reconstruction and relief of the region.
He confirmed that the housing file is very important following the destruction of over 85% of homes in Gaza.
He pointed out that it has been decided to choose locations that allow for providing education, health, and security services next to the pre-fabricated housing units, and working on providing housing that ensures the dignity of the Palestinian citizen who is currently living in tents that the winds uproot.
The American envoy to the Middle East, Steve Wietkov, announced the launch of the second phase of President Donald Trump's plan, which consists of 20 points to end the war in Gaza.
Wietkov stated that this phase transitions from a ceasefire to disarmament, establishing a technocratic governance, and beginning reconstruction.
Wietkov clarified, in a post on the "X" platform, that he announces the start of the second phase on behalf of President Trump, indicating that it establishes a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration in Gaza under the name of "The National Committee for the Management of Gaza."
He added that the second phase will include the complete disarmament and reconstruction of Gaza, particularly the disarmament of all unauthorized individuals, emphasizing that the United States expects Hamas to fully comply with all its commitments, including the immediate return of the last seized body, warning that any failure in this regard will have severe consequences.
