Sheikh Reviews Current Political and Economic Developments with the European Union
SadaNews - Today, Tuesday, His Excellency the Vice President of the State of Palestine, Hussein Sheikh, reviewed current political and economic developments with a delegation from the European Union, in light of the escalating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The European Union delegation included Alexander Stutzmann, the EU representative, Christian Berger, Director of the Crisis Response Center at the European External Action Service, and James Rizzo, Deputy EU Representative in Palestine, along with Shadi Othman, the media officer. From the Palestinian side, the official spokesperson for the presidency, Mr. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Major General Ruslan Sheikh Ibrahim, advisor to the Vice President, and Ms. Ayeh Al-Muhaysin, head of the Vice President’s office attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Sheikh emphasized the necessity of moving to the second phase of the plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, to contribute to stabilizing the ceasefire and opening a real political horizon. He stressed the importance of immediately and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions faced by our people, and pointed to the need for political and legal linkage between the West Bank and Gaza Strip as the foundation for the unity of Palestinian state territories.
He also stressed the importance of the European role in supporting political and economic efforts aimed at achieving stability and ensuring the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international law and the decisions of international legitimacy, reiterating that any interim solutions cannot replace a political path that ends the occupation and achieves just and lasting peace.
For their part, the EU representatives affirmed the Union's commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian people and their institutions, and enhancing partnership with the Palestinian leadership, contributing to addressing urgent humanitarian needs and supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability.
