Egypt: Young Man Impersonates His Twin Brother and Works as a Doctor in a Health Unit for Two Years

SadaNews - In a case stranger than fiction witnessed in the medical circles of Egypt, a young man with a bachelor's degree in sciences impersonated his twin brother, a "doctor", and worked in his place at a health unit in Beheira, taking advantage of their complete resemblance.

Investigations revealed that the young man, named Ahmed M., 29 years old and holding a Bachelor of Science degree, adopted the identity of his twin brother, M. M., who is a medical doctor, and successfully infiltrated the workplace at a health unit in the Shubra Khit Center, performing full medical duties for nearly two years without being discovered.

The incident dates back to the real doctor receiving an attractive job offer with a high salary outside the public sector. When his request for unpaid leave was rejected by the Beheira Health Directorate, the identical twin brothers decided to make a "secret agreement".

Under this agreement, the Science graduate impersonated his brother to perform his duties at the health unit to ensure he could retain his position in the government job, while the real doctor focused on working for a private company.

According to information obtained by "Al-Arabiya Net" and "Al-Hadath. T", it became clear that the accused had a degree of resemblance that made it impossible for the staff and patients visiting the health unit to distinguish between him and his brother.

The information revealed that the "fake doctor" regularly received patients and conducted medical examinations. However, he followed a cautious strategy; in difficult or complex medical cases, he would claim to be busy or avoid making decisive medical decisions to evade committing an error that could expose him.

A nurse working at the unit was able to uncover the deception after she became suspicious of the accused's unusual behaviors that did not match the expected experience of a doctor, prompting her to inform the relevant authorities who uncovered the truth.

As a result, both brothers were referred to the Public Prosecution to commence investigations, facing charges of forgery of official documents, impersonating a physician, and practicing medicine without a license.
