President Abbas Receives Chinese Envoy and Discusses Developments in Palestine
SadaNews - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received the Chinese special envoy to the Middle East, Ambassador Chai Jun, and his accompanying delegation at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah today, Wednesday.
President Abbas welcomed the Chinese delegation, appreciating China's supportive positions for Palestinian rights in international forums, which reflect the deep historical relations that bind the two countries and their friendly peoples. He expressed the gratitude of the State of Palestine and its people for the humanitarian and developmental assistance that China has provided and continues to provide to the Palestinian people, especially the humanitarian aid for the people of the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, the president reviewed the latest developments related to the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the importance of establishing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, moving to implement the second phase of the plan, including the Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, and proceeding to reconstruction, as well as halting Israeli assaults on the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, settlement expansion, settler terrorism, and the confiscation of Palestinian funds.
The president affirmed the importance of continuing international efforts to end the occupation and achieve independence for the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The president expressed his welcome for the invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Arab-China summit, scheduled to be held in Beijing next June, expressing his appreciation for President Xi Jinping and his supportive positions for the Palestinian people, and his keenness to enhance the friendship between Palestine and China.
President Abbas reiterated the commitment of the State of Palestine to strengthen and enhance the bilateral relations between Palestine and China for the benefit of the two friendly peoples, the Palestinian and Chinese.
The president reiterated Palestine's support for the One China policy followed by the People's Republic of China in maintaining the unity of its territory and rejecting interference in China's internal affairs, noting that China's wise policies on the international level have contributed to supporting stability in the region and global peace and security.
For his part, the Chinese envoy conveyed the greetings of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, to President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirming his country's supportive positions for the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to an independent state, and confirming the continuation of humanitarian and developmental assistance to the Palestinian people.
