Damascus and "SDF" Agree to Continue Meetings Without Decisive Results
SadaNews - The so-called "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) announced on Sunday that they have agreed with the Syrian government to continue meetings concerning the integration of military forces, following a meeting that discussed this matter. The two sides will pursue organized discussions until reaching results, as the deadline for implementing the March 10 agreement has concluded.
Earlier, press sources reported that the meetings hosted in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Sunday between the government and the SDF, attended by their Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi, did not achieve any significant progress.
For its part, the Syrian news channel reported a government source as saying that these meetings, which come as part of the follow-up to the implementation of the March 10, 2025 agreement, did not succeed in achieving results that would accelerate its implementation on the ground. It was noted that an agreement was reached to hold further meetings at a later unspecified date.
On March 10 of last year, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF leader Mazloum Abdi signed an agreement to integrate civil and military institutions in the northeastern part of the country under state management. However, the organization has delayed its implementation, which was supposed to have been completed by the end of December last year.
The agreement included the opening of crossings, the airport, oil and gas fields, and reaffirming the unity of the country's territories.
Arrest of Former Regime Elements
Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Defense stated on Sunday that units of the army had arrested 8 individuals with links to the previous Syrian regime, known as "regime remnants," near Deir Hafer east of Aleppo, while trying to cross illegally into areas controlled by the SDF.
It was indicated that the detainees will be handed over to the relevant authorities for necessary measures.
This comes days after bloody events in Aleppo city that resulted in the killing of 4 civilians and the injury of 15 others, most of whom are women and children, due to random shelling and sniper operations, before Syrian authorities announced the "neutralization" of the sources of fire, as described.
On December 27 of last year, border guard units arrested 12 individuals, including personnel and officers linked to the previous Syrian regime, at the Syrian-Lebanese border, and they will be handed over to the relevant authorities for the necessary measures.
Additionally, border guard forces arrested 5 individuals in the Tartus countryside while attempting to enter Syrian territory illegally. Initial investigations with the detainees indicated that some of them were from the previous Syrian regime, and they will be transferred to the relevant authorities to continue investigations and necessary procedures.
