The Electoral Commission Discusses Preparations for the 2026 Local Elections with Civil Society Institutions

SadaNews - The Central Electoral Commission held a meeting today, Monday, at its headquarters in Al-Bireh, with civil society institutions to discuss preparations for the fifth local elections, scheduled for April 25, 2026.

The Commission emphasized during the meeting its commitment to partnership with civil society institutions, highlighting their important role as partners in all stages of the electoral process.

The meeting included informing representatives of civil society institutions about the Commission's efforts following the Cabinet's decision to call for local elections, the details of the electoral timeline, and the awareness campaign launched by the Commission in the first phase of the electoral process; the voter registration phase, which focuses on registering young men and women, and includes awareness meetings in all governorates of the West Bank in partnership with civil society institutions, in addition to field awareness campaigns in universities and broadcasting awareness content in local media.

Participants were also briefed on the procedures for accrediting monitoring bodies for the 2026 local elections, the most significant amendments to the local elections law, the new electoral system, and the technical details associated with it, while reaffirming the Central Electoral Commission's commitment to implementing the new electoral law with complete neutrality and professionalism, and its respect for the varying positions of civil society institutions and political parties regarding the law.
