Sources to SadaNews: Hamas Prepares to Elect New Political Bureau Chief

SadaNews Report: Informed Palestinian sources revealed to "SadaNews" that Hamas is preparing to elect a new head of its political bureau.

The sources indicated that the elections will take place within a few days. They explained that a final decision has not yet been made regarding holding internal elections for its leadership both in the Gaza Strip and abroad.

According to those sources, leadership figures have been appointed for managing the Gaza file in place of those who were martyred during the war on the strip.

The sources also stated that internal discussions within Hamas regarding holding internal elections in February next year have been ongoing for weeks.

They emphasized that this date has not been fully confirmed, and consultations are ongoing until a final agreement is reached, which is primarily linked to the progress of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and the related developments.

The sources said that some of the movement's leaders are currently working to fill the void left by the assassination of prominent leaders in the strip.

According to informed sources speaking to SadaNews, the elections for Hamas's political bureau are expected to see a major competition between Khaled Meshaal, who is viewed as closer to Arab orientations, and Khalil Hayya, who is classified within the faction close to the Iranian approach in the region.

According to the sources, the years of war on the Gaza Strip have led to the emergence of two camps within the movement; one calls for openness to the Arab League and general Arab policies, embracing a more moderate political approach, while another camp close to the Iranian axis sees the "resistance and unity of arenas" as the fundamental path to achieving its goals.

The sources indicated that the upcoming elections for the political bureau are considered pivotal and unprecedented compared to previous rounds, as they will determine the majority's trajectory within the movement following the severe blows Hamas has faced in the Gaza Strip and abroad, and the extensive and unprecedented destruction left by the war in the strip.

Hamas has been engaged in intense internal consultations for several days to select members of the new political bureau, as a preliminary step ahead of the elections for the movement's political bureau chief.

According to special sources speaking to SadaNews, the well-known leader known as Al-Amoudi, from Khan Younis, is likely to take over the leadership of the movement in the Gaza Strip, succeeding Yahya Sinwar. The sources mentioned that Al-Amoudi has effectively been managing the movement's affairs in the strip for a while, after being practically assigned to this task.

According to the same sources, internal consultations have led to an agreement on naming both Mosheer Al-Masri and Tawfiq Abu Naim, who are from the surviving leadership of the movement in the Gaza Strip, as members of the political bureau representing the strip.

The sources added that consultations are still ongoing within the movement's leadership frameworks, aiming to reach a final composition for the new political bureau, including leadership from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank alongside the movement's leadership abroad.
