Some Prices Exceed Three Times Their Price.. Here Are The Most Expensive Basic Goods in Gaza and the West Bank Over the Year

SadaNews Special: Rampant inflation strikes Palestine, especially the Gaza Strip, which has endured a war of extermination for two consecutive years. The wave of inflation has persisted throughout 2025, and although the sound of bombardment has stopped in its fierce form, the Gaza Strip has not escaped the war of starvation and the continued Israeli control over the amount of goods allowed to cross, keeping prices inflamed, even though there has been a decline in the last two months after the ceasefire.

"SadaNews" monitors the most rising goods throughout this year, revealing data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics that some goods in Gaza Strip have increased in price this year compared to last year by more than three times.

The price of 25 kg of flour has witnessed the highest increase during the year, reaching 474.93 shekels compared to 100.49 shekels in 2024, marking an increase of 372%.

White bread weighing 1 kg ranked second in terms of inflation, with its price in 2025 reaching 21.21 shekels, compared to 4.60 shekels in 2024, marking an increase of 361%.

White sugar weighing 1 kg came in third place, sold at 73.24 shekels compared to 25.79 shekels in 2024, marking an increase of 183%.

Chicken eggs in a 2-kilo carton ranked fourth, reaching a price of 263.98 shekels compared to 103.47 shekels last year, recording an increase of 155%.

Fifth place was taken by ground coffee weighing 1 kg, sold at 385.82 shekels this year compared to 156.99 shekels last year, recording an increase of 146%.

Dried onions weighing 1 kg came in sixth place, with its price reaching 69.42 shekels compared to 29.54 shekels last year, rising by 135%.

Many basic goods have also seen notable price increases, with the price of 1 kg of bath cucumbers rising to 27.67 shekels from 16.34 shekels last year, an increase of 69%. The price of rice weighing 1 kg was 16.84 shekels, compared to 10.53 shekels last year, rising by 59.9%.

Olive oil weighing 1 kg rose by 59.5%, selling at 93.13, up from 58.36 shekels last year.

The price of 1 kg of bath tomatoes increased to 36.52 shekels from 29.25 shekels last year, marking an increase of 25%.

Frozen beef weighing 1 kg rose to 104.85 shekels from 85.15 shekels last year, an increase of 23%.

As for the situation in the West Bank, it is entirely different. The price of fresh lamb meat per kilo rose to 100.24 shekels compared to 85.76 shekels last year, marking an increase of 16.8%. The price of fresh beef also increased to 63.50 shekels this year compared to 59.44 shekels last year, recording an increase of 6.8%.

Additionally, olive oil weighing 1 kg increased to 35.49 shekels compared to 34.50 shekels last year, an increase of 2.86%.

However, some goods in the West Bank saw a decline compared to last year, as the price of chicken per kilo dropped to 14.21 shekels from 15.85 shekels last year, a decrease of 11.5%. The price of white sugar per kilo also decreased to 36.45 shekels this year from 41.90 shekels last year, a drop of 14.95%. The price of tomatoes decreased from 5.94 shekels last year to 3.59 shekels this year, marking a decrease of 65.4%.

It is worth noting that the group of food and beverage goods is one of the 13 groups measured within the general index for calculating the cost of living. However, it remains the most important group, as its weight in the index is approximately 28% of the total index weight, meaning that Palestinian households spend almost the same proportion of their income on the food group.

Data from the statistics department obtained by "SadaNews" indicated that there has been a cumulative inflation rate of 74.5% in Palestine over the last two years, with a rate of 334% in the Gaza Strip, 2.35% in the West Bank, and 5.45% in Jerusalem. (Cumulative considering the years 2024 and 2025).
