SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump mocked his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and his wife while criticizing allied countries in NATO for not joining the war against Iran.
Trump said during a private lunch on Wednesday in a video briefly posted on the White House's YouTube channel before it was blocked: "We didn't need them (NATO countries), but I asked anyway."
He added: "I called France, and Macron who is treated very poorly by his wife. He is still recovering from a strong slap to his jaw."
Trump was referring to a video from May 2025, which appeared to show Brigitte Macron slapping the French president on the face during a trip to Vietnam, something Macron later denied, considering it part of a disinformation campaign.
Trump continued by saying: "And I said: Emmanuel, we would like to get some help in the Gulf even though we are breaking records in terms of the number of bad guys we are eliminating and the number of ballistic missiles we are destroying. We would like to get some help. If possible, can you send ships immediately?"
He followed up using a French accent to say Macron's alleged response: "No no no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is over."
He added: "I told him: No no, I don’t need that, Emmanuel, after the war is over."
He also described NATO as a "paper tiger" in the latest attack by Trump and his senior officials on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization since returning to the White House last year.
On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the U.S. "will have to reconsider" its relationship with NATO once the war with Iran is over.
