Pakistan: Broad Diplomatic Move to Contain Escalation

SadaNews: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Ishaq Dar confirmed that his country, in coordination with China, has proposed a five-point peace initiative aimed at restoring stability in the region. The initiative calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, prevention of the escalation of conflict, and urgent humanitarian assistance, in addition to launching a political track based on dialogue and diplomacy, while adhering to international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter.

He noted that his recent visit to China, despite his health conditions, reflects the importance of bilateral relations, emphasizing discussions on regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, alongside enhancing mutual cooperation.

In this context, the minister revealed a series of diplomatic communications that Pakistan has conducted with several countries, including Iran, Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, as well as the United Nations and the European Union, as part of efforts to de-escalate tensions and enhance the chances of reaching a peaceful settlement.

Ishaq Dar also condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran, stressing the need to build trust and activate mediation, as dialogue and diplomacy represent the only path to sustainable peace.

Pakistan welcomed Iranian measures to facilitate the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, considering it a positive step contributing to easing tensions and enhancing regional stability.

Dar referenced a joint statement by foreign ministers of several Islamic countries, who condemned Israeli restrictions on the freedom of worship in Jerusalem, and rejected any attempts to change the status quo at holy sites, calling on the international community to take a firm stance to stop these actions.
