Kashif Observatory Launches Two Studies on Systematic Disinformation Against Women's Institutions and Civil Society
SadaNews - Coinciding with the International Fact-Checking Day, celebrated on April 2nd each year, the Palestinian Observatory for Verification and Media Education - Kashif, launched two studies on systematic disinformation against women's institutions and another targeting Palestinian civil society, supported by Norway within the framework of the Hivos project "Connect, Advocate, Act!".
The first study provides a comprehensive analysis of the reality of disinformation against the feminist movement in Palestine, deconstructing the ideological, social, and political infrastructure that fuels the systematic campaigns of incitement and disinformation against institutions and feminist activists. The analysis reveals that these campaigns are not merely sporadic cultural reactions but are the product of an integrated and interlinked system, where ideological actors provide the intellectual framework, social forces translate it into material pressure, while ambiguous official stances create a favorable environment for the flourishing of this discourse.
Meanwhile, the second study presents a comprehensive methodological documentation of the phenomenon of systematic disinformation and incitement directed against Palestinian civil society institutions during the year 2025, in a context characterized by unprecedented escalation of pressure from the Israeli occupation, alongside regional and internal pressures aimed at undermining the institutional framework of Palestinian civil society. This study gains its significance by combining precise quantitative analysis with in-depth qualitative analysis, relying on a mixed research methodology that includes a comprehensive field survey covering 40 institutions of civil society operating in the West Bank, critical discourse analysis of the media and political narratives directed against these institutions, in-depth interviews with institutional leaders, along with documentary analysis of the policies and official decisions of the Israeli occupation.
Kashif Observatory Director Riham Abu Aita stated that the observatory follows a new approach that goes beyond merely correcting information to deconstructing and analyzing the sources of disinformation. The significance of these two studies lies in the fact that they do not limit themselves to tracking rumors after their spread, but rather dissect the mechanisms of systematic disinformation targeting women's institutions and Palestinian civil society institutions. They also provide recommendations at several levels to counter the phenomenon of disinformation that complicates civil action in Palestine.
