US Embassy in Iraq Warns of Attacks in Central Baghdad

SadaNews: The US Embassy in Baghdad issued a "security alert" today, Thursday, warning that "Iran-allied Iraqi terrorist militias" may carry out attacks in the Iraqi capital within the next two days.

The US Embassy in Baghdad stated in the alert that "Iran-allied Iraqi terrorist militias may intend to carry out attacks in central Baghdad within the next 24 to 48 hours," noting that Iran and its allied militias have carried out "widespread attacks against American citizens and US-linked targets across Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq."

The alert added, "These entities may target American citizens, businesses, universities, diplomatic facilities, energy infrastructure, hotels, airports, and other locations believed to be associated with the United States, in addition to Iraqi institutions and civilian targets. The terrorist militias have also targeted Americans for kidnapping, thus American citizens should leave Iraq immediately."

The US Embassy stated that the Iraqi government "has been unable to prevent terrorist attacks occurring within Iraqi territory or those launched from it," pointing out that "terrorist militia groups may be linked to the Iraqi government, and some terrorists may carry identification documents referring to them as employees of the Iraqi government."

It is noteworthy that the US mission in Iraq continues its work despite the compulsory departure order for some of its personnel, in order to assist American citizens within Iraq.

The embassy warned American citizens against attempting to go to the US Embassy in Baghdad or the consulate general in Erbil, "due to ongoing security risks, including rockets, drones, and projectiles in Iraqi airspace," and reminded American citizens of the "travel warning level 4: do not travel to Iraq."

The US Embassy in Baghdad advised American citizens to "not travel to Iraq for any reason. Leave immediately if you are there."
