Minister Al-Maimi: The Atara Water Project is a Top Priority

SadaNews - The head of the Water Authority, Ziad Al-Maimi, stated that the Atara water project in Jenin Governorate is one of the most urgent projects on the Water Authority's priority list.

This came during his meeting today, Tuesday, with the head of the Atara Municipality's steering committee, Shaker Awad, where they discussed the chronic water crisis that the village is experiencing in the absence of a water network until today.

The meeting reviewed the difficult water situation in Atara, as it is the only village that still relies entirely on water tank trucks to meet its basic needs, imposing increasing financial burdens on the citizens and negatively affecting living stability, especially during periods of water scarcity and rising supply costs.

The two parties discussed the requirements for a comprehensive solution to the crisis, which involves executing an integrated water project that includes the establishment of a modern internal water network, building a water tank, along with implementing a transfer line that ensures the village receives water regularly, safely, and sustainably.

During the meeting, Ziad Al-Maimi emphasized that the Water Authority treats the issue of Atara as a national priority, confirming that the project has been officially included on the funding list, and efforts are underway to secure quick funding that enables the commencement of the project's implementation as soon as possible.

He added that the Water Authority continues to coordinate its efforts with local and international partners to provide projects to the most deprived communities, ensuring the reduction of gaps in water services and achieving greater equity in distribution, in line with national policies for the water sector.

For its part, the Atara Municipality expressed its appreciation for the Water Authority's interest and direct follow-up, hoping that this meeting would expedite the implementation procedures, end the citizens' suffering, and provide stable water service that enhances the village's resilience and improves the quality of life there.
