Gold in a Historical Tomb in the City of Harrah, Daraa Countryside: A Rumor or Reality?

SadaNews - A rumor has spread in the city of Harrah in the southern Daraa countryside, over the past few hours, about the discovery of an entrance to archaeological chambers filled with gold, during excavation works for the foundations of a building.

As the news circulated on social media, residents of the city and surrounding villages began to flock to the site, where it was said that the "discovered cave" contains large quantities of ancient gold.

This large influx prompted security forces to deploy in the area to prevent gatherings, for fear of incidents that could threaten citizens' safety.

After the intervention of civil defense teams and relevant authorities to examine the site, it was found that the cave was nothing but remnants of empty ancient graves, according to what was reported by the "Harrah Media Center".

The center added that it is likely that the graves were emptied of their contents about 20 years ago, during the implementation of a sewage project in the city, during the rule of the ousted President Bashar al-Assad.

During the search operation, only a few simple artifacts were found that confirmed that the site had been emptied previously.

In a related context, the Daraa governorate issued a statement via its official "Facebook" page, in which Wael Al-Zamal, the Director of the Al-Sanamin Area, and Jihad Qweidar, the Director of Tourism in Daraa, categorically denied the circulating news, confirming that what is being talked about is just a rumor without any basis in reality, urging residents to avoid exaggeration and gathering at the location.

Al-Zamal stated: "We are monitoring what is being circulated regarding the discovery of a cave containing gold during the excavation of a basement in the city of Harrah, and what has appeared so far is merely a small opening during the excavation works, and its nature is still undefined, with no evidence or sighting indicating the presence of gold at the site."
