Damascus Under Missile Attack... Casualties Reported

SadaNews - The Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported last night (Friday) that the Ministry of Defense stated that the capital, Damascus, was subjected to an attack involving two "Katyusha" rockets fired from the outskirts of the city towards residential neighborhoods in the Mezzeh area and its surroundings, resulting in injuries to several civilians and material damage to the location.

The Media and Communications Department at the Ministry of Defense informed the official agency that it has begun investigating the circumstances of the attack, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, and is working on "gathering necessary evidence and determining the trajectory of the rockets and the launch sources."

The ministry emphasized that it "will not hesitate to pursue those responsible for this criminal act and will take deterrent measures against anyone who disrupts the security of the capital and targets the lives and stability of Syrians."

Later, the Ministry of Defense confirmed to the official "Syrian News" television that it was able to locate the rocket launch site towards the Mezzeh neighborhood, noting that efforts are ongoing to secure the site to complete investigations.

The official "Syrian News" television reported that the explosion resulted from an attack carried out by unknown assailants on a house in the area, while the "Syria TV" channel mentioned that a rocket landed on a three-story building in the Ain al-Krum neighborhood in the Mezzeh area.

According to a security source, security forces are conducting "investigations to understand the circumstances of the incident and pursue the perpetrators." The television broadcast images showing a hole in the wall of one of the rooms of the house, which had its contents scattered.

The sound of the explosion was heard in some neighborhoods of Damascus, according to reporters from the "French Press Agency."

Dr. Samih Saqr (37 years old), a resident of the neighborhood, said: "I heard the sound of an explosion followed by a noise resembling the sound of a rocket as it fell." He reported that security forces and ambulances rushed to the targeted location.
