Kyiv Acknowledges Poland's Help in Retrieving Diver Wanted by Germany for Exploding Nord Stream Gas Pipelines
SadaNews - The "Wall Street Journal" reported, citing an unnamed senior Ukrainian official, that Kyiv has acknowledged receiving assistance from Poland in retrieving a diver sought by Germany for the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipelines to Germany.
The newspaper revealed that the Ukrainian diver, who is being tracked by a team of investigators in Poland, was transported to Ukraine in a black BMW with diplomatic plates, driven by the Ukrainian military attaché in Warsaw.
It added: "The Ukrainian government has refused to comment publicly, but the senior Ukrainian official privately stated that Kyiv acted after a warning from the Polish government."
It is worth mentioning that a previous German investigation had uncovered clear connections between some of the suspected crew members and the Ukrainian armed forces or intelligence agencies, as the group used forged Romanian passports in addition to genuine Ukrainian passports registered under different names.
Explosions occurred on the two Russian gas pipelines, "Nord Stream 1 and 2," on September 26, 2022, and several European countries did not rule out a deliberate sabotage operation.
For its part, Russian authorities confirmed the necessity of conducting an independent international investigation with the participation of professional experts, indicating that "everything happening now is sabotage and widespread cover-up on an international level, and Germany is still trying to avoid conducting an objective investigation into the terrorist attack and is delaying as much as possible."
In a subsequent development, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh published an investigation in 2023 stating that U.S. Navy divers planted explosives under the pipelines, a claim that the United States strongly denied.
Last September, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed doubts about the narrative of amateur divers exploding the "Nord Stream" pipelines, emphasizing that an operation of this kind requires capabilities possessed by the intelligence of major powers.
For his part, the head of Russia's foreign intelligence service, Sergey Naryshkin, announced earlier this month that Moscow has "reliable information" confirming the direct involvement of the United States and Britain in the "Nord Stream" explosions.
