Reviving the Balfour Declaration in Berlin: Students from the Evangelical University in Berlin
SadaNews - Students from the Evangelical University in Berlin (EHB) organized a cultural evening at the "Roots" cultural center to commemorate the Balfour Declaration.
The evening included the screening of two documentaries: the first discussed the Balfour Declaration and its historical impact on the Palestinian issue, while the second addressed the genocide faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza recently, highlighting the humanitarian suffering and human losses resulting from the Israeli aggression.
Thaer Hajjo, head of the Palestinian community in Berlin-Brandenburg, delivered a speech in which he talked about the backgrounds of the Balfour Declaration and the implications of the recent war on Gaza. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the Palestinian state and the international solidarity with the Palestinian people.
This initiative by EHB students and the Palestinian community is part of joint efforts to deepen awareness about the historical and political events of the Palestinian issue, and to enhance solidarity with Palestinians in the face of what they describe as "occupation and injustice."
Hajjo stated in his speech: "Recognizing the Palestinian state is not an option but a necessity, and solidarity with the Palestinian people is a humanitarian and political obligation." He also mentioned that the Palestinian community in Berlin-Brandenburg aims, through such events, to connect the academic and student community in Germany with pressing Palestinian issues.
Many university students, members of the Palestinian community, and some individuals interested in international affairs in Berlin attended the evening. A discussion and Q&A session was held after the film screenings, where lively exchanges of views took place regarding possible ways to enhance solidarity and joint action.
The organizers pledged to continue such initiatives in the future to promote communication between universities and communities, and to support social and humanitarian issues of international significance.
