Swedish Left Party Organizes Seminar in Parliament on Palestinian Prisoners
SadaNews - The Swedish Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) organized a solidarity seminar today in the Swedish Parliament building, dedicated to discussing the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails, with the participation of representatives from Swedish political parties including the Social Democratic Party, the Center Party, and the Green Party, as well as the General Union of the Palestinian Community in Sweden, the Palestinian Women’s Union in Sweden, and several Swedish solidarity activists.
The seminar featured the participation of the Palestinian Minister of Prisoners and Freed Prisoners, Brother Raed Abu al-Homs, along with several released prisoners including exiled released prisoner Salah Hammouri and released prisoner Hossam Shaheen via Zoom, who provided interventions about the reality of Palestinian prisoners and the violations they face inside Israeli detention centers.
The speakers during the seminar emphasized the necessity for the international community and the Swedish Parliament to pressure Israel to respect international law and halt violations against the prisoners, pointing out that the issue of prisoners represents one of the most prominent files in the Palestinian struggle.
For its part, the leadership of the Swedish Left Party reaffirmed its continued support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to freedom and self-determination, stressing that the suffering of prisoners is a humanitarian responsibility that lies with the entire international community.
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants called for strengthening cooperation between progressive forces in Sweden and Palestinian institutions to keep the issue of prisoners present on the European political and media agenda.
