Britain Lifts Terrorism Designation from "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham"
SadaNews - The British government has removed "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" from the list of banned terrorist organizations.
This was stated in a release from the British Interior and Foreign Ministries, which indicated that the government's decision aims to support Britain's priorities in both foreign and domestic policies.
It clarified that among these priorities are establishing closer relations with the Syrian government, combating terrorism and immigration issues, and dismantling chemical weapons.
The statement said: "The removal of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham from the list is part of Britain's response to significant developments in Syria since forces led by President Ahmad al-Shara' overthrew Bashar al-Assad's regime last December."
It added that the terrorist organization "ISIS" still poses a significant threat in Syria, and lifting the ban on Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham will help encourage the new Syrian government to join the mission to combat ISIS, thereby reducing the level of threat posed to Britain.
The statement noted that lifting the ban on "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" will support close cooperation with the new Syrian government to dismantle the chemical weapons program of the ousted regime, emphasizing that the British government welcomes President Ahmad al-Shara's commitment to destroy those weapons.
It is worth noting that on April 24, Britain lifted sanctions against 12 Syrian institutions and bodies, including the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
