WHO warns of contaminated cough medicines that led to the death of 17 children in India
SadaNews - The World Health Organization has issued a health warning regarding three cough syrup medications found to be contaminated in India, urging health authorities in other countries to report to it immediately if any of these products are discovered.
The organization clarified that the contaminated medicines are specific batches of "Coldref" and "Respifresh TR" and "Re-life," manufactured by companies "Srisan Pharmaceuticals," "Rednex Pharmaceuticals," and "Ship Pharma."
The organization pointed out that these contaminated products pose significant health risks and may cause acute, life-threatening illnesses.
For its part, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization of India informed the WHO that 17 children under the age of five died last week in India after consuming these contaminated medicines.
The agency confirmed that none of these contaminated medicines were exported from India, and there is no evidence of their illegal export.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed last Friday that these cough medicines were not shipped to the United States.
