Sisi Meets Witkoff and Kushner, Emphasizing the Importance of Continuing Peace Efforts in the Region

SadaNews - Today, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor to the President of the United States, as envoys of President Donald Trump for participants in the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, in the presence of Major General Hassan Rashad, Head of General Intelligence, and Ambassador Hiro Mustafa, the U.S. Ambassador to Cairo.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed al-Shennawy, stated that the president began the meeting by expressing his welcome for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the strenuous efforts of President Trump in this regard, noting his desire to sign the agreement as soon as possible.

In this context, the envoys expressed their gratitude to the president and the concerned Egyptian authorities for the significant efforts made to reach the agreement.

They pointed out the strength and strategic nature of the relationship between Egypt and the United States, emphasizing that President Trump appreciates President Sisi's role in resolving this crisis and in the region in general, as well as valuing the friendship between him and President Sisi.

The official spokesperson added that the president affirmed Egypt's eagerness to continue cooperation with the United States to implement the agreement based on President Trump’s plan that will be signed, reiterating Egypt's commitment to work closely with the United States to complete their partnership in the peace process in the Middle East that Egypt initiated and the United States has sponsored since the 1970s.

The president also stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the sector without waiting for the signing of the related agreement.

The spokesperson indicated that the president praised the role of the American side as well as the Qatari and Turkish mediators in supporting Egypt's efforts in the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations, confirming that stopping the war and achieving peace in Gaza and the region is an aspiration shared by all countries and peoples of the region and the world. He affirmed that Egypt will continue to work with the United States, mediators, and concerned parties to implement what has been agreed upon sincerely and responsibly, including the ceasefire, providing sufficient humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages and prisoners.

The official spokesperson noted that "Witkoff" and "Kushner" reiterated the appreciation of the United States for the pivotal role played by Egypt in ending the war and restoring stability in the region.

For his part, the president reiterated that Egypt values and supports President Trump's efforts to end conflicts and establish peace in the Middle East and the entire world, once again expressing his eagerness to welcome President Trump in Egypt to witness the signing of this historic agreement in a ceremony befitting the event.
