Syrian Security: "Rebel factions violate the truce and target security points"

SadaNews - A Syrian security source announced that "rebel factions" in the southern province of Suwayda have violated the truce at the Walaqa axis and targeted security points, according to what the Syrian official news channel reported. The source pointed out that the internal security forces in Suwayda responded to the sources of gunfire and targeted the rebels' positions. In mid-September, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani announced the launch of a pathway to achieve national reconciliation and restore stability in southern Syria, following a joint meeting in Damascus with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, and the U.S. envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack. This was the third meeting between the three parties since July. Al-Shaibani revealed at that time a roadmap of 7 practical steps for a solution in Suwayda, signed with the support of Jordan and the United States. Since July, Suwayda has been experiencing a fragile ceasefire following a week of bloody clashes between Druze groups and Bedouin tribes that left hundreds dead, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, despite the Syrian government announcing 4 consecutive ceasefire agreements in the area, 3 of which collapsed. Israel has claimed to be acting "to protect the Druze" to escalate its aggression against Syria, a move which Damascus considers a blatant interference in internal affairs, demanding that Israel comply with the 1974 disengagement agreement signed between the two sides. The Syrian government has been making intensive efforts to maintain security in the country since the overthrow on December 8, 2024, of the ousted president Bashar al-Assad's regime after 54 years of his and his late father Hafez al-Assad's rule. Since the fall of the Assad regime, the Syrian interior has reported seizing drug warehouses and factories in several areas across the country, which the ousted regime has been accused of being behind.
