Jericho and the Jordan Valley Governor Meets with a Diplomatic Delegation in Al-Auja Municipality
Sada News - Today, the Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Dr. Hussein Hamayel, met at the Al-Auja Municipality with a diplomatic delegation that includes several ambassadors and consuls accredited to the State of Palestine, aiming to inform them about the latest developments and the continuous violations faced by the Jericho and the Jordan Valley Governorate from the Israeli occupation. The meeting was attended by diplomat Dr. Dalia Erekat, mayors, village council heads, heads of popular committees in the camps, the director of local government, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the security services.
Governor Hamayel welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed his happiness for this visit, which reflects the solidarity of the world with the Palestinian people and their just cause. He conveyed greetings from President Mahmoud Abbas "Abu Mazen" and the Palestinian leadership and government.
The governor briefed the delegation on the difficult conditions in the Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate due to the repressive practices and measures carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities, which include isolating the governorate, confiscating its land, demolishing homes, and daily abuses of the citizens, in addition to almost daily incursions into the camps and villages and imposing iron gates on all entrances to the governorate.
Governor Hamayel thanked, on behalf of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas "Abu Mazen", the countries that recognized the State of Palestine and stood by the Palestinian right, urging countries that have not yet recognized it to take this humanitarian and legal step in support of peace and the rights of the innocent who suffer under occupation.
Dr. Hamayel called on the international community to take responsibility and pressure to stop the settlement projects in the Jordan Valley, end the siege imposed on the governorate, and halt land confiscation policies.
The governor affirmed that the Jericho governorate, with its security and civil institutions, continues to work despite all the harassment to impose security and stability; however, the occupation does not wish for that and continues to tighten the noose around the lives of citizens and eliminate any hope for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
For his part, the representative of the European Union to the State of Palestine, Alexander Stutzman, confirmed that the EU is following the situation in the Jericho and Jordan Valley governorate with concern, reaffirming the union's commitment to support the rights of the Palestinian people and reject all unilateral measures that hinder the two-state solution, calling for respect for international law and a halt to violations against Palestinians.
Additionally, the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the State of Palestine, Issam Al-Bdour, expressed the Kingdom's full solidarity with the Palestinian people and leadership, affirming that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, will continue its efforts to support legitimate Palestinian rights, protect the sanctities in Jerusalem, and work with brothers and the international community to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
At the end of the meeting, Governor Hamayel thanked the ambassadors and consuls for their attendance and supportive positions towards the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli occupation policies, calling for conveying the suffering of the Palestinian people to their governments to stop the Israeli repressive policies against the Palestinian people.
The meeting included several interventions by mayors and village council heads, who reviewed the most prominent daily challenges faced by citizens in the governorate due to the Israeli restrictions and measures and the closure of roads by checkpoints and iron gates.
